Copenhague Chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for HAY
Description + Details
?Aesthetically, the Copenhague Chair is a synthesis of contrasts between hard and soft, edgy and rounded, minimalist and decorative. The repetition of legs in triangle formations when it is stacked forms a sculpture itself as a professional and aesthetic gimmick from Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. The chair is able to transform into straight rows of conference seats with an added click-system that keeps the chairs in line. The Copenhague Chair is 2 × 2 legs and two moulded plywood shells. The sharply bent plywood is made of multiple sheets of fine veneer layered with cheesecloth. This combination makes the shell stronger than normal and gives the chair a pleasant springiness that is essential in a backrest, and which gives a nod to Bauhaus and the first cantilever chairs.
